Remodeling your home

Surviving a remodel takes patience and planning. You may find your home life changes drastically as space becomes limited and access to every day luxuries are interrupted. Families may find that they are sharing bedrooms or eating dinner in the livingroom.  There are key considerations you want to focus on prior to starting that can make life easier.

By thinking ahead you can minimize the stress that comes along with every remodel.

Pack Smartly

While it's exciting to start a remodel and you may want to jump right in, take your time to pack rooms away neatly and carefully. Use spaces like basements, attics, closets and even sheds to store items. Consider setting aside smaller portions of things you may want and can't access: books, clothing, and board games. Pack like items together and label boxes like you would for a move.

Take a Break

Don't expect life to be normal during a remodel. Plan easy meals that take little prep or result in easy cleanup. Use paper products and cook on the grill whenever possible. It's important that homeowners plan ahead for dining out as it's common for families to eat out more frequently when the kitchen or other areas of the house are under construction. Don't try to keep up with normal cleaning routines as you will find it's a losing battle; plan to do minimal cleaning and expect a longer cleanup as the project comes to an end. Life will get back to normal!

Carefully Consider

When the time comes to begin stretching out and putting your new space back together it's important to take your time to consider what needs to go back in a room. You may find that some things you previously used are no longer needed or important. If you find that you didn't miss something during the time it was packed away you may want to consider whether you truly need or want it.
